Community Involvement Council Vision Session

June 2004 - St. Marys

What do you see as the purpose and function of the Community Involvement Council
over the next five years?

Six Key Themes emerged in response to this question:

§         Creating Vision

§        Promoting Best Practices

§        Support to each other

§        Point of information exchange

§        Value Based Leadership Development

§        Be a leader in Project Work

§        Influencing systemic change

§        Influencing Agencies

§        Influencing Community

There was also some discussion on the viability of the CIC in terms of its existence ~ is it a useful and relevant group? Does decreasing attendance at meetings mean there isn’t a need for the group? There was agreement to move ahead with a fall ‘project’ and reassess based on the success of that.

Short Term Follow Up Action

(by Fall 2004)

 · Choose a ‘best practices’ project

Two areas in particular need much attention: Deinstitutionalization and Citizenship. The group decided Citizenship should be the next focus. A session on this would include:

§        Presentation

§        Discussion about who’s doing what around the issue

§        Ways to Follow up

 Actions decided on:

1.     Joe will check with Al and Gord, who did a session at Community Living Ontario to see if they will come and do a presentation in September

2.    Target Invitations to ensure there is a good response

Commitment to evaluate how the session went and if this is the best direction for the CIC to go in terms of  being involved in an issue and bringing it forward for further exploration and work.
